SCULPTURE & SENSORIAL MACHINES
A hand-braided tube threads through the dense green body of a living, oval-pruned tree—its canopy split open to host this appendage. At its base, a life-sized leather vessel hangs and pulses, breathing like a human-scale bagpipe. It inflates and softens with invisible effort, exhaling a rhythm both mechanical and organic.
Rooted Breath is a hybrid respiratory system, a graft between species and systems. It binds flesh to foliage, breath to bark, forming a living loop between human body and botanical host. Through gesture, friction, and quiet inflation, the sculpture offers a ritual of respiration—an invocation of presence, rooted and raw.
